Trauma & PTSD
Trauma and PTSD can result from overwhelming experiences and may lead to lasting emotional, physical, and psychological distress.

What Is Trauma & PTSD?
Trauma is an emotional or psychological response to a deeply distressing event that overwhelms a person’s ability to cope. Even experiences that may seem less severe can have lasting effects, especially when they disrupt a person's sense of safety, control, or stability.
Some common causes of trauma include:
- Physical or sexual abuse
- Domestic violence
- Serious accidents or injuries
- Sudden loss of a loved one
- War, combat, or refugee experiences
- Childhood neglect or emotional abandonment
- Divorce or significant relationship loss
- Bullying or ongoing emotional stress
While not everyone who experiences trauma will develop long-term symptoms, in some cases, the impact can lead to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD happens when a person continues to struggle with the effects of trauma over time, often experiencing emotional, psychological, and physical symptoms that interfere with daily life.
How Is Trauma & PTSD Treated?
Trauma and PTSD can be treated through supportive therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or EMDR. In some cases, additional support such as a referral for medication management may also help with symptom relief. We have found that kindness, patience, and a sense of safety provided by the people around us are equally important to the healing process.
Recovery from trauma takes time, and the best treatments combine professional support with genuine human connection.
